ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that refreshes the eyes by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It’s commonly used to treat drooping eyelids, under-eye bags, and puffiness – creating a more youthful, alert appearance. In some cases, it can also improve vision where sagging skin obstructs your field of sight.

Blepharoplasty is especially popular among men who want to address signs of aging or fatigue while keeping their natural, masculine features intact. The procedure is customized to the unique shape of the male eye, ensuring subtle, natural-looking results that never appear overdone.

Upper vs lower blepharoplasty

Upper and lower eyelid surgery address different concerns and are planned very differently.

Upper Blepharoplasty

An incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid to remove excess skin and fat. This targets hooded or drooping upper lids that can make you look tired, older, or in some cases affect your peripheral vision.

Lower Blepharoplasty

The incision is made just below the lash line or inside the lower lid to access and remove fat or tighten loose skin. This targets under-eye bags and puffiness that persist regardless of rest.

Your surgeon will recommend whether upper, lower, or both eyelids should be treated based on a thorough clinical assessment.

CANDIDACY

Is eyelid surgery right for you?

Eyelid surgery is ideal for men who have excess skin, puffiness, or drooping around the eyes due to aging, genetics, or other factors. The procedure can help you look more rested and alert while maintaining a masculine appearance. It is essential to be in good general health and have realistic expectations for the results of the surgery.

The goal is never to sell surgery. It is to ensure any procedure recommended is safe, appropriate, and likely to deliver a meaningful result.

THE PROCEDURE

What happens during surgery?

Blepharoplasty is typically performed as a day-case procedure, meaning you return home the same day.

The approach depends on whether upper, lower, or both eyelids are being treated. Both procedures are performed under local anesthetic with sedation, or general anesthetic depending on the extent of treatment.

Both procedures can be performed individually or combined in a single session. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate approach during your consultation.

Upper blepharoplasty

45-90 minutes

An incision is made within the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Through this incision, excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat are carefully removed or repositioned. The incision sits within the eyelid crease, making it virtually invisible once fully healed.

Lower blepharoplasty

1-2 hours

An incision is made just below the lower lash line. For patients where fat redistribution is the primary goal, a transconjunctival approach — through the inside of the lower eyelid — may be used, leaving no visible external scar at all.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Recovery and aftercare

Recovery from male eyelid surgery is relatively quick, with most men returning to work within a week and experiencing minimal downtime.

PHASE 1

Week 1

Some swelling and bruising around the eyes is normal, peaking around day 2–3 before gradually improving. Cold compresses, head elevation, and prescribed eye drops help manage discomfort. Sutures are typically removed within 5-7 days.

PHASE 2

Weeks 2-4

Visible bruising resolves and you can resume work and light social activity. Any temporary dryness or irritation in the eyes usually settles during this period. Sunglasses and sun protection are recommended when outdoors.

PHASE 3

Months 1-3

Residual swelling continues to settle and the final contour of the eyelids becomes apparent. Results are long-lasting, keeping you looking refreshed for years. Scars within the eyelid crease continue to fade.

You’ll receive a personalized aftercare plan and have access to our clinical team throughout your recovery.

Yes, the results of male eyelid surgery are long-lasting, although the natural aging process will continue.

All surgery carries some risk. These may include temporary swelling, bruising, or eye irritation. Scarring is minimized by placing incisions in discreet locations. In rare cases, asymmetry may require a follow-up procedure. Your surgeon will review all risks during your consultation.
