ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
What is Breast Uplift?
A breast uplift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that lifts and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. The areola and nipple are also repositioned to create a firmer, more youthful appearance.
This procedure is ideal for women whose breasts have lost shape or volume due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, weight loss, or genetics. It improves the breast contour, making them appear higher, rounder, and more symmetrical.
While a breast uplift does not increase breast size, it can be combined with breast implants if additional volume is desired. Your surgical plan will be personalized based on your anatomy and goals, which will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
Uplift alone or with implants?
A breast uplift can be performed on its own or combined with implants for additional volume. Your surgeon will help you decide which approach is right for you.
Breast Uplift
Lifts and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissue. Ideal if you’re happy with your breast size but want to restore shape and firmness.
- Sagging or drooping breasts you want lifted
- Loss of firmness after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss
- Nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease
- A desire for improved shape without increasing size
Uplift with Implants
Combines a mastopexy with breast implants for women who want both a lifted shape and additional volume or fullness.
- Loss of both shape and volume over time
- Breasts that have deflated after breastfeeding or weight loss
- A desire for fuller, rounder breasts as well as a lifted position
- Improved symmetry with added projection
A thorough consultation determines which approach – or a combined strategy – is appropriate for you.
CANDIDACY
Is a breast uplift right for you?
A breast uplift restores youthful firmness and shape, lifts breasts to a more flattering position, and improves breast symmetry and nipple alignment. Many patients experience a significant boost in self-esteem and confidence, along with an enhanced fit and comfort of clothing and swimwear.
The procedure is best suited for women in good overall health with realistic expectations. You may be a good candidate for a breast uplift if you:
- Have sagging or drooping breasts
- Are unhappy with your breast shape or nipple position
- Have experienced changes due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or aging
- Are in good overall health with realistic expectations
The goal is never to sell surgery. It is to ensure any procedure recommended is safe, appropriate, and likely to deliver a meaningful result.
THE PROCEDURE
What happens during surgery?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 1 to 3 hours. The surgeon removes excess skin, tightens the surrounding tissue, and repositions the nipple and areola to a more natural, lifted position. The size of the areola may also be reduced if necessary.
Depending on your breast size and shape, your surgeon will choose the most appropriate incision technique.
Incision techniques
1-3 hours
Three incision types are available depending on your anatomy and goals. A periareolar incision runs around the areola. A vertical incision runs around the areola and down to the breast crease. An anchor incision runs around the areola, down to the crease, and along the breast fold. Your surgeon will recommend the most suitable technique during your consultation.
Reshaping and closure
Natural looking results
After making the incisions, the surgeon reshapes the breast tissue and removes any loose skin to create a firmer, more elevated look. The focus is always on natural-looking results with minimized scarring.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Recovery and aftercare
Initial recovery takes about 1 to 2 weeks, with most patients returning to non-physical work within that time. Full healing and final results may take 6 to 8 weeks.
PHASE 1
Weeks 1-2
Swelling and bruising are normal in the first few days. You will wear a pressure garment or supportive bra for 4 to 6 weeks to aid healing and maintain your new breast shape. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity. Most patients return to work within 1 to 2 weeks.
PHASE 2
Weeks 3-4
Swelling continues to subside. Light exercise can gradually resume. The breasts begin to settle into their new, lifted position. Follow your surgeon’s guidance on returning to full activity.
PHASE 3
Weeks 5-8
Final results become fully apparent. Scars are usually well-hidden by the natural contours of the breast and fade over time. Shape, symmetry, and nipple position settle into their final appearance.
You’ll receive a personalized aftercare plan with clear instructions on wound care, medications, and lifestyle adjustments to support optimal healing.
